World Food Programme announces the following job opportunities:
1- Senior Logistics Assistant (Transport)
Under direct supervision of the Logistics Coordinator, the Senior Logistic Transport Assistant will be responsible of following tasks:
- Assist all Transport companies by checking all documents, Registration, capabilities.
- Direct supervising on dispatch from Benghazi upon desert /paved road trucks.
- Ensure that all transporters documentations for delivery of food to Chad are prepared by transporters in time and procedures are implemented.
- Prepare draft for work orders (LTI) to be signed by Logistics Officer.
- Assist in maintaining the transporters performance charts and updating shortlists.
- Initiate billing for all logistics services (stevedoring/transport) and prepare relevant documentation for the attention of the CO.
- Ensure that transporters implement terms of agreement signed with WFP.
- Maintain contact with stevedoring and transport Companies.
- COMPAS focal point for Benghazi Station [Data entry and data management for all shipments arriving Libya (Discharge, Dispatch)].
- Administrative focal point for Benghazi.
- Perform other related duties as required.

2- Senior Logistics Assistant (Port operations)
Under direct supervision of the Logistics Coordinator, Senior Logistic Port Operation Assistant will be responsible of following tasks:
- All Logistic operations including all logistic assets in order to ensure timely and cost effective delivery of WFP cargoes.
- Initiate/draft logistics contracts pertaining to port operations and transport in Benghazi.
- Maintaining shipping and customs documentations for all WFP shipments arriving in Benghazi port
- Supervise the discharge of all WFP shipments.
- Maintain shipping and customs filling and keep the update upon receipt of relevant documentations, draft shipping and customs correspondence in English and Arabic
- Maintain contacts with various shipping Agents, Protecting Agents, Port Authority, for vessel arrival upon receipt of booking confirmation, sailing advises, charter party etc.
- Establish monitoring of WFP food arrivals in liaison with HQ/CO
- Monitor day to day work of WFP Superintendent timely submission of vessel discharge reports, bagging operation, containers stripping completion of waybills and dispatch report.
- Keep supervisors updated of any situation required attention and submit prompt report.
- Maintain/check and delivery of waybills to/from Superintendent for cargo documentation purpose
- Initiate regular visits to port, Silo and Warehouse to ensure conformity with storage regulations in storage of food and non-food items.
- Perform other related duties an assigned.

3- Senior Finance Assistant.

Under direct supervision of the Finance Officer, the Senior Finance Assistant will be responsible of following tasks:
- Guide, train and supervise more junior staff engaged in the processing of financial reports and returns from country offices and regional bureau.
- Participate in providing procedural and technical support to the staff elsewhere in the Programme.
- Analyze, control and accurately maintain relevant General Ledger Accounts and initiate corrective action as necessary.
- Initiate payment processing according to WFP financial rules and regulations.
- Assist in preparation, implementation and monitoring of budgets; prepare funds consumption and other budget related reports, including donor reports.
- Brief/debrief staff members on issues relating to financial transactions.
- Prepare periodic financial and statistical reports.
- Oversee the data input into financial related database by finance assistants and provide guidance on data input and validation.
- Prepare bank reconciliations, review locally recoverable items, Imprest summaries and funding sheet summaries.
- Monitor WFP local bank accounts and keep track of balance to ensure that there are sufficient funds; prepare request to replenishment of the Imprest Account(s) whenever necessary.
- Assist in setup and implementation of proper accounting procedures, systems and internal controls.
- Participate in development and implementation of new financial policies and procedures, interpret and assess the impact of changes and make recommendations on follow up actions.
- Draft or prepare correspondence to respond to enquiries in respect to relevant financial matters; review correspondence drafted by other assistants prior to clearance by Officer or Chief, as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as required

4- Storekeeper
Under direct supervision of the Logistics Coordinator, the Senior Logistic Transport Assistant will be responsible of following tasks:
- Receive all the WFP food and non-food commodities.
- Report on the quality, quantity of the received commodities and ensure that quantities dispatched as per consignor’s documents match with quantities received and endorse documents.
- Maintain clean and pest-free storing conditions.
- Ensure good warehousing practices.
- Supervise the off loading and stacking of the commodities, follow up tracking of the commodities in pipeline and report the same to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain records and/or ensure that assistants assigned to the various stores keep records of the food stuff offloaded/loaded at the warehouses, adhering to the WFP systems.
- Control incoming goods both food and non-food commodities by such methods as physical counts, random weight checks, rejection of any spoiled commodity, reconditioning of underweight bags, etc.
- Sign waybills of received and dispatched cargo.
- Deliver goods on request against official and approved documentation.
- Keep updated records on stack cards, and/or computer inventory lists.
- Make periodic physical inventory checks.
- Liaise with field monitors and others on matters pertaining to logistics.
- Report on and, in consultation with others, take appropriate action for the disposal of spoilt commodities.
- Provide overall supervision and training of other storekeepers and casual labour.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Sociology

Job Description:
The Sociology Program, Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology and Egyptology (SAPE), at the American University in Cairo invites applications for an open rank tenure track position to begin fall 2010. The Department is seeking candidates with a strong background in sociological theory and research methods and a specialization in one or more of the following areas: development, political sociology, social movements, civil society, gender, stratification, or criminology. Knowledge of the Arab world is considered a plus.

Successful candidates should have an ongoing program of research and publication and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Responsibilities include undergraduate as well as graduate teaching in a joint Sociology-Anthropology MA program, an active program of research and publications, and service to the Department and the University.

Requirements:
PhD in Sociology is required at time of appointment. Teaching experience is preferred.
